Projects

A flexible user projects extension for Flarum 2 — a showcase page for creator communities. Members publish "projects" (books, games, apps, art, mods, anything) as cards on a dedicated page, with rich, admin-configurable metadata.

Inspired by this community request. Free and MIT-licensed.

Features

Project cards with an optional cover image, author, categories, key parameters, a short description and link buttons — on a dedicated /projects page.
Search & filters — full-text search, category filter and sort (recent / most-liked / A–Z), plus an Add project button.
Admin-defined categories with an icon and accent colour. A project's main category becomes a badge shown next to the author's name across the forum.
Custom parameters — define your own typed fields (text, paragraph, number, date, URL, select, yes/no) such as Genre, Age rating or Release date. Choose which show on the card.
Flexible link/button system — define button slots, optionally restricted to specific domains (e.g. only YouTube links), with default or custom labels. Example for a book: Read Excerpt, Buy, Discuss on Forum.
Optional moderation — projects can publish instantly or wait for approval, controlled per-group by the Publish without moderation permission.
Detail page with forum-formatted content, all parameters and link buttons; link a forum discussion for comments.
Built-in likes on every project.
Profile integration — a Projects tab on each member's profile, plus a featured-project badge (their main category's icon, with the project name on hover) next to their username everywhere.
FoF Badges integration (optional) — award a badge when a member's project is first published.

Installation

Then open Admin → Projects to add categories, custom parameters and button slots.

Follow-up to SergeyTS's v1.3.0 feedback.

Fixed

Badge awards now notify the recipient. The award goes through fof/badges' BadgeAwarder (which sends the "you earned a badge" notification, runs the badge's actions, and fires BadgeAwarded) instead of a raw pivot attach. Falls back to the direct attach on older fof/badges so the award still lands either way.
The "award on publish" badge is now a real picker — a dropdown of badge names (loaded from the config endpoint), matching the per-category badge picker. No more raw numeric IDs; choose "None" to disable.

Included (already in the 1.3.0 source, ensured here for installs that pre-dated it)

Parameter (custom field) descriptions — add them in the field editor; they render under the parameter's name in the submission form.
Per-category badge picker + tag descriptions on hover.

Update: composer update ernestdefoe/projects then php flarum cache:clear.

Follow-up UI polish from SergeyTS's feedback on v1.4.0:

Details editor — inner padding (text no longer against the edges), taller box, and a wrapping toolbar so the formatting tools fit on narrow screens.
Links section — more spacing between link rows.
Author separator — the middot now aligns with the author names (baseline alignment; avatars stay centred).
Dropdowns — now a Flarum-styled dropdown menu (built from Flarum's own Dropdown), instead of a native <select> whose popup used the browser's chrome.

Added

"Made with AI" declaration — an optional toggle on the project form. When enabled, a disclaimer chip appears on the project card and a fuller notice on the detail page, so viewers know the work was AI-assisted. Fully translatable.

Fixed

Featured-project badge clash (reported by SergeyTS) — the featured badge next to the username reused fof/badges' .PrimaryBadge class, causing the two badges' styles to conflict. It now uses its own standalone .ProjectFeaturedBadge class with self-contained styles, so the two render independently.

Lighter project pages

Part of a performance pass across all my Flarum extensions: nothing should cost more work as a page gets busier.

Fixed

Project pages no longer load every member who liked a project. Like counts come from one query, and the category definitions are cached instead of being re-read four times per page view.

Projects pages load only when visited

Fixed

The project page renders again. Its loading placeholder mixed two kinds of list items that the page renderer refuses to combine, so a project page could come up blank.
The projects pages and the submission form now load only when someone opens them, instead of in the script every visitor downloads on every page. forum.js went from 9.5 to 2.4 KB compressed.
Your categories, custom fields and buttons are no longer sent with every page of the forum. The projects page fetches them when it opens.
The projects pages can't load another extension's files by mistake. Their file names are now unique to Projects, so a forum running another extension that also loads pages on demand can't end up with the wrong file and a broken page.
